It's kind of amazing, isn't it? When I was little, we used to drive from Arizona to Georgia and back (my granddaddy lived in Georgia) and crossing the Mississippi was always a very big deal. Also, it took a long time to drive across Texas.
ReplyDeletewhen I lived in Western Illinois, I spent many weekends driving down to the Mississippi. I had a favorite spot where there was a log to sit on and I would always see birds. My life in IL was lonely, but I often miss the river, the silence and immensity of it all.
